How to set up winxp without using CD ROM supports.

This is a question that I suffered last few days. My Toshiba Protege M200 does not contain optical driver, and at that this time I don't have a USB optical drive too. So I used another method to setup XP for it.

Needs
                     1. Win98 SE bootable CD.
                     2. WinXP
                     3. Laptop 2.5'' to Desktop 3.5'' IDE Hard Drive adapter converter connector (It is possible to build yourself if you have two connectors)

Converter

                     4. Working desktop with CD ROM
                     5. That's all your needs....
Steps....
1. Connect your Laptop HDD with desktop PC.
2. Place Win98SE on CDROM and make first boot sequence
3. Turn on PC and select CD ROM support start up.
4. Create two partitions and select one active.

  • diskpart // Start diskpart on the cmd
  • listdisk //check the avalable disk
  • select disk [Disk] // select one disk from available disk list
  • create partition primary size=[size] // create primary partition
  • assign // assign a drive letter to primary partition

5. Use format/s {format partition while copping system file} command to format above active partition. (This can be done while in the win98 folder, of CD-ROM)
6. Place a copy of i386 folder on another partition.
7. Take out Laptop HDD and place it in a Laptop.
8. Turn on Laptop and go to folder i386
9. Use command winnt in folder i386. It will begin WinXP setup.
10. That's all steps needs to follow.
